Devlog week 9

Hellooo and welcome to this weeks devlog of Limbloss!

Art

Joan continued working on the Menus, UI and HUD of our game, this week she finished the Start Screen Elements and Pause Screen Elements. For the Player Test she made finished the Controls and Tutorial Pop Ups. She also started to make a Credits Screen. It is not entirely done but can be used as it is right now.

This week Felicia made three more particles to help with player feedback. Two similar impact indicators, where the yellowish one is meant to show hits in combat, and the white for more general getting whacked around by the environment. There’s now also a series of sparks followed by smoke, meant to indicate when a player has lost a limb.

She also made a couple of flowerpots to help decorate the scene.

Mauro finished creating the rocks for the backdrop and worked on the general level building of the environment, placing props and foilage around. He also made our second long-range weapon: The mighty spear! He made a barrel as well to  decorate the scene and create some obstacles on the playing field.

This week Bram focussed on levelbuilding: changing lighting, messing around with grass and moss, placing plants, changing material parameters around etc. This after implementing windswirl effect system for more ambience

There is still some work to be done but progress has been made!

Programming

Wout spent a lot of time fixing bugs so the game actually works. Besides that he worked on a push mechanic as that was something a lot of people gave feedback about. So now you can push players in other traps and in the water!

Besides that he made sure you can now drop your weapon and the b button of xbox will pop up when you can pick something up.

Ward worked on making the menus work + showing the lives in the HUD now works!

The traps in the game now push the player away with an extra force, so that they can really cause havoc if you accidently hit them.

Maybe a bit too much still... oops.

Player animation for left hand attack now correctly executes too, now able to attack with either hand based on which hand the sword is in.
A lot of bugs were fixed this week too, including the crash sometimes with the attaching of limbs.

Sounds

Meanwhile for sound!

I’ve been trying to catch up on all the lost time I’ve stacked up the past two weeks since I have 2 projects I work on. It’s been a rough ride this week for sure but it’s always satisfying to see a completely silent game slowly fill up with sound effects overtime, although I’m not the fastest at creating these sound effects since I’m never so happy with my sounds from the get go, but I end up creating something I eventually feel confident about. This week I've worked on creating and implementing the splash sound, arm reattachment sound and head explosion sound! I was planning on also adding footstep sounds but I still ran into some struggles with Unreal and didn't get the time to finish them.

Thanks for checking in!
